Many valuers base their charges on a percentage of the jewellery or other item’s value. Heather McPherson believes that this approach may cause conflict of interest and therefore bases fees for all valuations and reports on professional hourly rates.
This means that the cost often works out to be less than people think and a free initial assessment of your items is also provided together with a quote for your consideration before the work is carried out. For larger quantities or regular work, a daily rate or fixed fee can be arranged. |

Once the original valuation has been done, all records are kept for a minimum of 5 years. Due to the fluctuations in gemstone and gold bullion prices, it is recommended that you have your valuation reviewed every 3-5 years, and if the original documents are kept, a valuation update will be carried out at a minimum fee.
Although it is preferable for clients to attend our premises so that a full range of gem testing facilities are available, some clients prefer a home visit, and for most items this can be arranged. A mileage charge for home visits will apply if over 10 miles from our premises.
Whilst on the premises all goods are fully insured; goods are always kept in a locked safe when not being worked on, and the highest security and confidentiality is maintained at all times. |
